Assignments

Starting this year, your child will record his or her daily homework, long term projects and assessment dates on his or her agenda.  Your child needs to learn how to manage time accordingly in order to meet the deadlines of different assignments.

Periodical Assignments:

1. MeiZhou HuaYu worksheets:

MeiZhou HuaYu worksheets will be assigned 2 pages a time. These worksheets are due to the teacher when the entire MeiZhou HuaYu lesson, including both the lesson and story, is finished.  The exact dates will be posted on the calendar. The worksheets are usually due every 4 to 6 weeks.

It will be super helpful if you can help put the worksheets for each lesson in a 3 ring binder.  Your child just needs to bring the lesson which has been assigned to school. When it is time to turn in the worksheets,  please help your child staple each lesson of MeiZhou worksheets before turning them in.

If you lose a page by accident, please email Ms. Zhong and she will email a soft copy to you to print out.

2. Reading Assignment:

Your child should read the Chinese Language Arts texts in Meizhou Chinese he/she has learned and any Chinese story books in which he/she is interested for 10 minutes a day on any school day. Your child may choose to read any Chinese books that are checked out from the local library, e-books on the Level Chinese app, or from other reading apps or reading websites. He/She is also required to fill out a weekly reading log.

The weekly reading log is assigned every Monday and due the following Monday. The weekly reading log format and requirements will change every trimester.

3. Other Assignments:

There will be other assignments assigned on Google Classroom or Seesaw or Flipgrip for recording oral responses in the format of voice comments or video recording. You will get reminders on weekly newsletters of major assignments that have an impact on report card grades. Other classroom assignments on Google Classroom with no due dates are for instructional time only and answer keys or sample answers will be shared in class regardless of finishing status. Completing those assignments out of class time is not required.

Long Term Assignments:

1. Chinese Oral Presentations:

Your child will be assigned about 4 to 5 Chinese oral presentations throughout the year. Please check Google Classroom for detailed directions about each presentation and rubrics.

2. Social Studies Projects:

Your child will be assigned about 4 to 5 social studies projects throughout the year. These projects are usually finished with teacher's assistance at school. However, there might be occasions when the student needs more time to finish the project. Then the projects will be sent home in a weekend homework folder. The student is required to finish the work over the weekend and bring back to school.

The embedded Google Calendar is created for your reference if your child has forgotten to jot down notes on the agenda book or is absent from class. It was effective on October 3rd.

I started full-time teaching as a high school English teacher in China in 2000. Then I went to Teachers College, Columbia University for my MA in Bilingual Bicultural Education in 2007 then another MA in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University in 2018. I have taught in many different settings a wide range of students of different age and ability in the U.S.: private tutoring, private school, Sunday school, language school, and public school. While I have taught many different subjects: ELA, ELD, CLA, SEL, math, social studies, science, P.E., visual art and classical piano, I am a language teacher to the core so I have spent most of my career in immersion program classrooms and I love every moment of it!
